NCTE Scheme for National Award to Teacher Educators
National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has approved a scheme for National Award to teacher educators with a view to recognizing the outstanding contribution made by a Teacher Educator towards promoting the cause of teacher education in the country. Details of the scheme are as under:-
The award will be given away on the occasion of the Foundation Day of the NCTE or on any other day as decided by the Council.

Each award will carry a citation, a shawl and a silver
medal.
(i) Teacher Educator with at least 15 years regular teaching experience in a recognized teacher training institution may be considered for this award.
(ii) He/she should have authored at least two books on Teacher Education and should have published at least 10 papers on Teacher Education in different journals/newspapers.
(iii)
Normally
a retired Teacher Educator will not be considered for the award. However, those
teachers who have served for at least 6 months in the academic year previous to
the academic year to which award pertains to may be considered, provided he/she
fulfills all other conditions.
(iv)
A teacher
educator whose name was considered during previous year(s) may be reconsidered
if he/she is otherwise eligible. However, one who has already got this award
once may not be considered second time.

consideration that should guide the selection of teacher educators for the
award.
(i)
Reputation
in the institution.
(ii)
Academic
efficiency and contribution towards further improvement with focus on research.
(iii)
Genuine
interest towards the promotion of the cause of teacher education.
(iv)
Overall
involvement in the field of education.
Nomination for the award for a year may be invited through advertisement in leading newspapers. Names may be forwarded to the Regional Committee concerned by the State Govt. for elementary teacher training and by the University for other categories in the proforma attached at Annexure I, as per schedule (to be indicated in the advertisement). Any institute running teacher training course may forward one name in any category to the State Govt./University concerned in the proforma attached at Annexure (I) (except part D and E). Private institutions running teacher education course may send the nomination to the University/Affiliating Body concerned. Nomination may be considered at the level of State Govt./University by a Selection Committee (Vide composition at Annexure II). With the recommendations of the Selection Committee, not more than two names in each category may be forwarded by the State Govt./Universities concerned to the respective Regional Committee of NCTE in Annexure I (Except part E).
At the Regional Committee level, there will be a Selection Committee (as provided for in Annexure II) which will consider all the names received from State Govts./Universities for different categories. Each Regional Committee may recommend name equal to double the number of awardees in each category to the NCTE Hqrs. for further consideration, in Annexure I. The final list of awardees will be decided by NCTE on the basis of recommendations of a National Level Selection Committee (to be constituted for this purpose as per composition at Annexure II).
