Is it necessary to seek recognition from NCTE for starting a teacher training programme?

Yes. After coming into force of the NCTE Act,1993 it is mandatory for an institution to seek recognition from the NCTE for starting/conducting a teacher training programme. Otherwise, as per the provisions of the Act, the degree in teacher education shall not be considered as a valid degree for the purpose of employment under the Central Govt., any State Govt. or University, or in any school, college or other educational body aided by the Central Govt. or any State Govt.

What is the procedure for seeking grant of recognition from NCTE for starting/ conducting a teacher training programme?

What should I do if my application seeking grant of recognition is rejected?

If your application seeking grant of recognition is rejected by the Regional Committee by an order passed under Section 14, 15 or 17 of the NCTE Act, you can prefer an appeal against such an order to the Council (NCTE Headquarters at New Delhi) in a prescribed format alongwith a fee of Rs.10,000/-.

What should I do before taking admission in a teacher training programme run by an institution?

You should first verify from the NCTE website www.ncte-in.org or from the office of the Regional Committee concerned as to whether the institution has been granted recognition by the NCTE for conducting the teacher training programme.
