A Word from the Head
Keeping in view the central place of teacher education, NPE 1986 calls for its overhaul as the first step towards educational reorganisation. The POA for implementation for NPE envisaged the need for developing some colleges of teacher education as comprehensive institutions. As a result, under Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Strengthening and Reorganisation of Teacher Education launched in 1987, 50 Secondary Teacher Education Institutions of an adequate standard and good reputation were to be upgraded as IASEs for providing high quality academic inputs into school education.
JAMIAs IASE is one of the first such institutions established in 1988. Alongwith pre-service teacher education courses and research activities, the Institute now conducts subject-oriented and theme specific in-service education programmes for secondary school teachers and teacher educators on a large scale.
One of the specific functions of the Institute is the development and publication of instructional material. The present book on Population Education: Content and Methodology is one of such publications.
I appreciate the effort of the editor, Prof. Riaz Shakir Khan who could complete the task of getting the chapters written by the experts in the field and editing the book. I am thankful to the experts for their valuable contributions.
It is hoped that the teachers and administrators working in the field of population education will find this document useful.
